GRADE 6 TO GRADE 8 (LOWER SECONDARY / MIDDLE SCHOOL)

At this stage the real learning starts. The learning is the first step to lifelong learning. The whole system of learning is rooted to inquiry based learning. It prepares students to face the challenges and opportunities facing young students with the world changing very rapidly.

  • First Term Exam and Final Exam
  • The exams are based on Summative Assessment and Formative Assessment.
  • Promotion is based on the average of the two exams (40% + 60%).

At SIS, we believe in achieving a balance between Formative and Summative Assessment. Assessment is for learning and not of learning. It is not simply testing children for quantity of information. It necessarily means collecting relevant information which can be applied upon to make further decisions. While on one hand , Formative Assessment is essentially ‘Practice ‘and ‘Student Involvement‘(tools for assessment: class observation, quiz, self/peer assessment, field trips, academic games, projects over the year ), Summative Assessment is done periodically to gauge student learning relative to certain standards (tools for assessment: mid-term and final assessment). Thus, it is an integrated part of the quest for improved education and includes providing feedback to students as well as parents, paving the way for improvement.

  • There are no formal examinations from Grade 1 to 4.
  • From Grade 5 onwards, evaluation will be carried out taking into consideration internal assessment, weekly tests, mid-term and final examination.
  • The grading system will be used for assessing students of Grade 5 to 9 and 11.
  • The passing marks in every subject is 40%.
